Industry Parter: Micrometric
Founded in 1981 in Lincoln, Micrometric specialises in the laser material processing of metals. The company is a European leader in the use of lasers which produce fine parts and precision components from small prototypes through to large scale production.
Micrometric work internationally with a wide range of industrial sectors, including aerospace, automotive, energy, medical, oil and gas, engineering and electronics. Managing Director of Micrometric, Neil Main, sits on the Board of Governors at Lincoln UTC and supports students with work experience on a regular basis. Whilst completing a BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering, Georgina Smith was given the opportunity to complete an industrial placement with Micrometric.
Georgina said: “My placement allowed me to build a long-term relationship with Micrometric, gain an in-depth understanding of the company, and evidence the practical application of my engineering skills. “In September 2021, I started a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lincoln, and I am now working part-time for Micrometric alongside my degree.”
Neil Main, Managing Director at Micrometric said: “By giving engineering students an opportunity to learn about the precision components and state-of-the-art equipment we use, they are able to increase their knowledge and abilities not just in engineering, but in design, innovation and even organisation.
