The end of 2019 signals a new decade with the opportunity for new beginnings. Lincoln UTC is currently accepting applications for its 2020/21 intake and with the twelve days of Christmas swiftly approaching this article will explain the twelve traits that set the UTC apart from an average secondary school.

  1. Lincoln UTC is a specialist college for science, engineering, mathematics and technology.
  2. Students join the UTC in year 10 and year 12. It does not have a fixed deadline and is always happy to take enquiries about new applications.
  3. Lincoln UTC is a professional working environment, therefore students don’t have a uniform but are expected to dress accordingly in business attire.
  4. The UTC has fewer students and smaller class sizes than most ‘ordinary’ schools which leads to the development of positive and supportive relationships between the students and the staff.
  5. The atmosphere at the UTC is mature, calm and purposeful. Disruption is rare and students treat the business environment with the respect it deserves.
  6. Lincoln UTC is not selective…but it’s not for everyone. The challenging technical, practical and academic curriculum is not an easy option.
  7. The college prepares students for a seamless transition into the workplace and for this reason it operates a longer working day than most schools from 8.45am-4.15pm.
  8. Lincoln UTC is committed to giving students opportunities to see the world and experience different cultures. The enrichment programme currently includes visits to Austria, Germany, Hong Kong, and Italy.
  9. The UTC places a core emphasis on providing students with opportunities to develop the skills that will set them apart from other young people and help them to succeed in industry and at university.
  10. The project programme is a key element of the UTC skill development strategy, and encourages independent learning in which students are expected to plan and organise their own approach.
  11. Lincoln UTC has designed a careers curriculum that provides numerous opportunities to sample the world of work. This includes frequent work experience, industrial placements, university links and business lunches.
  12. Students receive exceptionally high-quality guidance for their next steps in education, employment or training. The majority who apply for higher education secure their first-choice placements and many are also successful in securing prestigious apprenticeships.
