Design & Electrical Engineers: Alfie Hinton & Billy Hanner
In 2017 Lincoln UTC graduate Alfie Hinton secured an apprenticeship with Fairfield Control Systems, which develops control and automation systems for use in a wide range of applications, including the retractable roof over Wimbledon’s centre court, the London Eye and Tower Bridge.
Alfie is now in the third year of his apprenticeship and has been spending time in all areas of the business alongside studying for a degree in Electrical Engineering at Sheffield Hallam University. Alfie, who beat over 40 other applicants to the role, was the second Lincoln UTC graduate to secure an apprenticeship with the company.
Billy Hanner has also been working at Fairfield Control Systems Ltd. for the past four years, and after finishing his apprenticeship programme was recently promoted into a permanent and full time Design Engineer position within the Projects Team at their Head Office.
Billy has now chosen to further his qualifications through a 1 year part time BEng degree course in Control and Automaton Engineering, which will be sponsored by Fairfields as he continues to earn whilst learning.
Peter McMorrow, Fairfield’s Engineering Director, added: “Apprentices are such a vital part of our organisation and sustainability, we appreciate the need to train and develop young talented people in order to produce world class engineers for the future. We have identified Lincoln UTC as a key partner in providing students a springboard into industry and can affirm that it provides the necessary preparation and industry opportunities. Both Billy and Alfie are a testament to how this partnership works and have a very exciting future in engineering and with Fairfields.”
