KS5 - BTEC Art and Design Practice Extended Diploma  Level 3

The BTEC Art & Design Practice course is equivalent to three A Levels, it is a two-year, full-time course.  The course is ideal for learners who want to progress to higher education in Art & Design disciplines before entering employment or for those learners wanting to enter direct employment opportunities.  The course can lead to careers in a wide range of creative industries such as architecture, art, product design, graphic design, interior design, illustration, web design and many other related areas.

This qualification has been designed to encourage students to develop relevant skills in many disciplines to enable them to design and make products and art pieces which are detailed, creative and demonstrate students abilities to work with a wide range of different materials.

This course focuses on all aspects of Art and Design including drawing, painting, graphic design, illustration, technical drawing, textiles, product design, photography and 3D modelling.  These skills are developed through a varied set of design briefs that will help to develop students creative and problem-solving skills. In addition, learners are encouraged to explore links to artists/designers and cultures. The skills developed through the first part of Year 12 will then be integrated into a final project and portfolio at the end of the first year.

As learners’ progress into the second year, they will be encouraged to work more independently, students will explore professional and industry practice in greater depth to give an understanding of the art and design industry to aid career progression.  Technical skills will also be further developed leading to a final major project and portfolio to prepare them for higher education or employment. The course is assignment based and 100% Internally set and assessed.
