Royal Air Force: Ben Rodgers

Congratulations to 2019 UTC graduate Ben, who has successfully passed out of phase one training with the RAF! We recently caught up with him to see how he has been getting on…

"I have always been interested in pursuing a career within the RAF, so in 2017 I made the decision to join Lincoln UTC because their links with the armed forces and the specialist STEM curriculum would help me to achieve this goal. Whilst studying at the UTC I had the opportunity to work with the RAF during team building and communication workshops both at college and during trips to RAF Wittering and RAF Cranwell, which gave me a great insight into the career I was heading for.

After completing my GCSEs this summer I took on a part time job with an electrician, before joining the RAF and completing phase one training. I have now started phase two training, and following this I hope to join the No. II Squadron RAF Regiment and complete both the pre para and jumps course to become an Airborne Infantryman. Other ambitions of mine include working with the Special Forces and light armour vehicles in future. I also hope to go on tour and protect the country overseas."
